Visionary director VO introduces a harrowing tale of 8 year old girl Gemma,
who lives in an impoverished subdivision of Manila. Gemma is constantly
ridiculed by her peers and unnecessarily disciplined by her Aunt cruel
and greedy family. Although Gemma stoically accepts her predicament, she
often dreams of one day immigrating to Japan to live the good life with
her mother. Years later, when the opportunity for Gemma to reunite with
her biological mother finally presents itself, she is overcome with joy,
but quickly finds out that life isn't how she imagined it in a foreign
land where family can be an exorable equal.
